Upstate New York is covered with small towns and cities, each playing their part in the history of the state. One of these cities which is experiencing a resurgence in recent years is Hudson, NY. This quiet city located directly on the Hudson River has become home to many unique shops, restaurants, art galleries, and more. As these have emerged people from New York City, Long Island, and more are starting to take notice. So hop on the train for a quick trip and come experience this quiet, elegant city. You’ll soon find yourself spending more and more time in Hudson, NY!
On our trip we were fortunate enough to speak with a few business owners about the community, what it means to them, and the lifestyle in Hudson. Our first stop was the Rivertown Lodge, a recently renovated hotel. The building was originally a movie theater in the 1920’s that fell into decay. After being purchasing by new ownership, this hotel is now a warm, homely place you have experience for yourself. This hotel has drawn endless visitors here to Hudson for an unforgettable experience.
Next up on our trip we spoke with a Landscape Architecture firm about the scenery of Hudson and the surrounding areas. Initially starting in Burlington roughly 30 years ago, the firm was looking for a second location. Enter Hudson, NY. Due to its proximity to the train lines leading to New York City, and position between the Hudson River and rolling hills, this was an ideal location for a firm that uses the landscape to create memorable settings. These settings (both natural and manmade) are a big reason why thousands flock to Hudson for a unique, quiet getaway.
Last up we visited a coffee shop, motorcycle repair, and retail store all bundled into one. We certainly had our questions how these three all came together into one business. Upon speaking with the owner, we found he always had a love for working with his hands repairing motorcycles, but was looking for a place he could hang out and enjoy rather than simply work and go home. Just like that the idea to turn this location into a coffee shop too was born. The store is now a mirror image of the identity of Hudson, how its unique, and why the real estate market here is booming.
All in all, Hudson, NY is a quiet, charming small city with diverse shops, restaurants, and experiences to be had. If you’re looking to get away for the weekend, purchase second home, or move to relaxing area, then Hudson is for you. Head down to the welcoming coffee shop. Venture out to the countryside for some exercise. Gain a true farm to table experience. The choice is yours.
