Our first episode covering the “Lake Life” out on Lake George was a blast to create. Seeing as how it was our first episode we learned a lot and really took it all in. Now that it’s here we wanted to give you a little background information on what it was like filming, what to do in Lake George, why we chose here, and the people we were fortunate enough to speak with.
The Beginnings:
So how did Lake George become the hot spot it is today? History, beauty, and 4 beautiful seasons. Lake George was the inspiration for Last of the Mohicans as well as the setting of the French & Indian War. While your in Lake George we highly suggest you check out Fort William Henry, one of the last standing forts from the French & Indian War. You can even stay at their one of a kind resort right in the heart of Lake George village too!
“Lake George is without comparison, the most beautiful water I ever saw; formed by a contour of mountains into a basin… finely interspersed with islands, its water limpid as crystal, and the mountain sides covered with rich groves… down to the water-edge: here and there precipices of rock to checker the scene and save it from monotony.”
– Thomas Jefferson, May 31, 1791
Behind the Scenes:
Heading out in the early summer we were really able to experience the tranquility and peacefulness of the lake. In addition to taking out the helicopter and boat we were able to chat with 2 local individuals about what it means to them, what to do in Lake George, and why they love the lake.
Lake George Freedom Boat Club
Matt O’Hara (Owner)
Like many people you’ll bump into in Lake George, Matt’s family has long standing ties to the area. When the time came to start a family, the decision to come to the Lake George area was a no brainer. There’s nothing quite like creating memories with your family and friends on the lake.
The next step was to take a passion of his and use it to help others create those same memories. The Freedom Boat Club is a niche boating service that allows members to have the accessibility of a boat without all the extra headaches. You simply sign up, receive the rights to use the boat whenever you’d like, and its always fully maintained, fueled, and stored in the offseason.
Freedom Boats truly is a red carpet service for boaters.
Shoreline Boat Sales
Dennis Quirk (Owner)
Another long standing local, Dennis’ family has been in the Lake George area selling boats for over 25 years. Falling in love with the allure of Lake George at an early age, Dennis decided he also wanted to help others enjoy their love for the lake. Today, Shoreline Boat Sales carries high end brands such as Chris-Craft and Formula.
In addition to the boat sales, his family also operates a cruise line with 2 ships the Adirondac and Horicon. These 2 ships provide daily cruises as well as the perfect setting for weddings, corporate events, and more!
Together the Shoreline family helps locals and vacationers both experience what its really like to get out on the lake.
